I get mail

I get the most bizarre people emailing me. Someone calling themselves "Nia Caine" emails this:

Hi

Your post on a movie site offended me. When you said that you were going to shoot your self because Tom Cruise was starring in the Last Samurai. What's so bad about him anyway??

Jesus H. Christ, that post is from December. Will you people get a life already? And as far as I know, no, there is nothing "wrong" with Tom Cruise -- I used something called "hyperbole" to express my displeasure at the idea of Tom Cruise playing a samurai, though as I understand it he'll be playing a Westerner who gets into the samurai thing as a plot point -- I'm sure he'll be fine in yet another Hollywood potboiler featuring his fine, white teeth. (I probably lost her at "hyperbole" -- damn teenagers.)

Nah. You can do it in your bare feet.

Dude, you run one of the most popular sites on the blogosphere. Which means that you come up in search engines a lot, for things you don't expect--you're a HIGHLY LINKED site, so Google and others pick you up a lot.

I had a thread--you may remember it, it was MONTHS ago--called "I Hate Andrea Harris," and someone searching on Andrea Harris found it and posted to it. A couple of someones.

I had a post on "Trogdor the Burninator" about a month ago, and people are still finding it in Google and posting to it. These people have never visited Dean's World before, and will likely never visit again--although a few might.

These people aren't freaks. They just aren't regular readers of your weblog, and most likely have no idea what a weblog is. They see an article, and an invitation to comment, so they do.

There is only one way to make this stop--turn off comments on all your old threads. Or, just relax and let it happen, because it will keep happening forever and ever and ever. And most will never see your "You are a bunch of freaks" messages. ;-)

Dude, it's my blog, and if I want to get bent out of shape because someone actually fires off a weird email at me (they didn't comment, this time), then I will. Dude.

Andrea, some of us love you for the way you rant at freaks. I'm a little jealous though. I never get email from freaks. I only have to deal with freaks in real life where I'm usually not free to yell at them and slap them around like I want to.

Sorry this is on a relatively old post, but I just got an e-mail from this Nia Caine person. If she is really a she and not an enticement to reply and verify my e-mail address for spammers (like I'm not on their list already), then she ripped into me good about Tom Cruise. And the only mention of Cruise on my site is a positive review for Minority Report! I think it's a bot... or an insane person.

She seems to be making the rounds.
