Eminem on the Grammys

So... what's the big difference? He's sounding and performing like he always does, doing his whiteboy rap shtick.

(Or is it Grammies? Whatever.)

I'm just trying to think what will be the more grotesque sight at the Oscars: Eminem or Catherine 'Help The Aged' Zeta Jones and and the Blonde Chipmunk doing the number from Chicago. The last tolerable Best Original Song number was Robin Williams trying to slip a few more four letter words into 'Blame Canada'.

I think "Blame Canada" was up for an Academy Award though. At least, some banal Phil Collins Disney-movie song actually won that year's award, so I'm pretty it wasn't a Grammy up for grabs.

Heh. Saw some show recently. It had a black guy living in a white suburb, questioning his black authenticity. So he buys a ticket to a rap concert (he hates rap, but it seems black) and winds up in the middle of a crowd of white teenagers wearing their caps backward.

Ken:

That's the weird irony of rap/hip-hop: it's black dysfunction, prejudice and criminality served up to an audience overwhelmingly made up of white, middle-class white teenagers. At least you could dance to Motown and Stax...
